Aerosol Deposition

Regional aerosol deposition is determined by simulating the flow in the patient specific geometries using specific boundary conditions by means of CFD. The parameter simulates the particle flow and particle behavior for these patients as a function of the patient specific inhalation profile, geometry of the airways and the drug particle size. Although it is a simulation, it contains so much patient information that the simulation can be considered very close to a measurement. This allows determining the regional concentration of inhaled aerosols and consequently the effective lung dose of inhaled medication. The parameter is depicted on extrathoracic and intrathoracic level, on distal, central and peripheral level and on lobar level.
