The advent, value and place of QCT, Interview with Dr. Hoesein, UMCU.

In the recently published “Fluidda’s Magazine on FRI”, Dr. Firdaus Hoesein, radiologist at the University Medical Centre Utrecht, was interviewed about his experiences with FRI and his expectations for the use of this technology in the near future.

He states that there is limitations the lung function testing as it only gives a value for the lung as a whole, where more detailed local information of the lung is key for measuring disease progression and treatment outcomes.

In Hoesein‘s opinion, quantitative imaging is useful in all lung diseases, but it could play a major role particularly in the long-term follow-up of patients with a chronic illness such as COPD, cystic fibrosis (CF), chronic respiratory tract infections or patients who have previously had a lung transplant. ‘It is important to identify the long-term effects.’
